Carrying On..

My mom was called Cary. I happen to live on a street called Cary..
in an apartment much like the one she described wanting to live in one day.
In an apartment I "dreamt" about 10 days before I saw it.
Her birthday is Monday.
She died five and a half years ago, or so..
But her presence is very much alive around these parts.
As I have gone through the treachery of rebrand and rebirth,
her presence has been with me, guiding me, just as she did with each of my baby's births.
Reminding me to focus, reminding me to breathe, sneaking ice & bits of candy, as she could.
My mother had a poster she loved.
"KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON", of the British Advert variety.
The slogan matched her personality well,
She would insist they spelled her name wrong, and so it was.
She gifted the poster years ago, a gift from the relinquishments of one of her & her husbands gypsy journeys, perhaps running from Virginia to New Orleans.
They loved to do that. And she'd carried the poster for a bit, but eventually found it suited me better I suppose, and so-gifted it, upon one move-in, when I was perhaps 15 years younger.
It now hangs in my bathroom, above the toilet, prominent.
I'm British, you see, so it's a nod to my heritage, and also, a call to the present, which suits my life philosophies. It's a constant reminder of who I am, if- and whenever I choose to look up and acknowledge it.
Turns ironic, her love of this poster; she never learned that she was British, a startling fact revealed to me shortly after her death, with me, measuring in at 87% British, Londoner.
This made sense to me suddenly why London felt like home the moment I tried to leave it the first time, one vacation years ago. I had the strangest feeling in my body of leaving home to go home, and yet, we'd only met.
And so, my opening Reiki retreat begins there: London, England, this Apr, 2026.
Keeping calm and carrying on.

Think: softness. calming energy. emotional release. community healing. safety. purity. pranayama. movement with breath. mantra. space. silence. adventure. family.
I suppose this makes me carrying on, on Cary, as my mom would have it.
Much love to you each, blessings be in the abundance.
